OppenheimerFunds Private Investments’ President and CEO Donna Winn Authors Op-Ed On Saving for College
Donna Winn, President and CEO of OFI Private Investments, shared her perspective on the importance of reinforcing the dream of college in the January 2009 issue of Financial Planning.
In her op-ed, Winn outlines a few simple tactics that can help jump start the college savings process, emphasizing the importance of dollar cost averaging, creative funding options and most importantly, the use of 529 college savings plans.
“Good tactics can help support a college saving effort,” Winn notes. “But how do you marshal the motivation that propels a strategy in the first place,” she writes.
Winn’s suggestions for advisors include making sure that saving for college is part of every planning discussion with parents, stress that any and all saving is good and will lessen the debt burden later and educate your clients about various saving options, including 529 plans.
“There are many paths to college– and no path will work for everyone,” Winn said. “You can make college dreams achievable by providing every client with a great plan.”
